Adapted from Canadian author Deborah Ellis’ novel ‘The Breadwinner’ it tells the story of a young Afghan girl ‘Parvana’ who disguises herself as a boy to support her family following the imprisonment of her father. Set during Taliban rule, the film is directed by Irish animator Nora Twomey who founded the animation studio ‘Cartoon saloon’.
