At full steam, the Republican National Convention demonstrated its lack of concern for extreme weather influenced by anthropogenic climatic changes – by saying nothing. Except for one moment, when, in his speech, Vice-President Mike Pence stated “Joe Biden would abolish fossil fuels, end fracking and impose a regime of climate change regulations”.
At a time when flooding in south Asia, prolific storms in North America and heatwaves across the world are tearing apart the fabric of environmental stability, there is nothing more debasing than the silence of the world’s biggest polluter.
Incumbent President Trump makes no secret of his disdain for science and climate change, even though there are hints of acknowledgement that it is indeed happening. If in fact, he accepts its existence, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s statements of “steady reductions in sea ice…” to dig for oil, only further prove the baneful aspirations of an already wicked administration.
Trump’s claim that climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese government, is most likely influenced by television. The remark is eerily similar to that of one from TRU TV’s show ‘Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura’.
Storm Laura, an intensified extreme weather event is made more likely due to climate change, trampling Louisiana, a U.S. state already faced with rising sea levels that have engulfed much of its coastline.
Writer Bill McKibben’s New Yorker article said it best in the headline “On climate change, we’ve run out of presidential terms to waste“ and says – “…if Joe Biden and Kamala Harris take over the White House, in January, they’re going to be dealing with an immediate and overwhelming climate crisis…”…”…It’s not coming; it’s here”
The Republican party has always stood up for dirty energy. George W. Bush made no secret of this when he withdrew from the Kyoto protocol. If Trump is re-elected, it could be the beginning of the end.
