British diplomats have been instructed to reduce aid budgets by as much as 70% abroad within in a six week period.
The rapid reduction could prove catastrophic to nations depending on funding from abroad. With the Department for International Development heavily involved in many projects, the cuts could prove a shock to the system.
Sarah Champion, Chair of the International Development Select Committee said:
“Government announced written statement will be published today titled ‘development update’. There’s no way scrutiny or impact assessment can be made when cutting Aid funding this fast.“
An announcement and statement is due later today from the government.
