This week’s ‘Get to Know’, profiling up and coming artists, features Reading based rapper ‘Hadley’.
For those that don’t know, who are you and what do you do?
My name is Hadley. I’m 21 years old born and raised in Reading, I’m an up and coming artist as well as owner and creator of street-wear ‘WST MDE’.
What’s your latest release and what’s it about?
My latest release is my ‘CHOZN Freestyle’ which can be found on the CHOZN Media YouTube channel. This track is about me, I wanted to show people what I’m about or what to expect from me, think of it like my introduction to the music scene. Listening to my music is like having a conversation with me. My music is my emotions, it’s how I feel or felt at a point in my life I’m just putting my energy into it, I want it to connect with people, and that’s what I do on this track.
What’s your favourite track you’ve recorded and why?
My favourite track I’ve recorded is called ‘What’s love’ and this is the song that made me fall in love with music. I started writing this not long after I released my block freestyle, and that was the first time I expressed myself properly. I hadn’t written anything as real as that before and I wanted to keep doing that. I decided I was gonna really open my heart on this next song. About half way through, I got stuck and I had left it for months and I knew listening to it you can feel the lyrics but I want people to feel the music as well and that’s how the song feels now. It changed the way I make and think about music, helping me find myself. ‘What’s Love’ will be available on the first of April on my YouTube channel and all streaming services.
Single, EP or album release and why?
I think as an up and coming artist it’s really important to consistently release singles, allowing yourself to build a genuine fan base. This year I plan to release 4 – 5 singles, one of those being ‘What’s Love’ and that’s not including features. But I do have an EP in progress titled ‘Top off the bottle’ set to release early next year.
Who do you run with and how do they influence your music?
I’m not much of a social person if I’m honest, I’ve built many relationships throughout my journey but my circle is very small especially in terms of working with people. I’m very organised when it comes to making my music. I like to know exactly what I’m doing before I reach studio. There’s only a few names I can mention for this question which are Aiden Widdows, Dizz, GM & Sticko, and that’s because every single one of them has there own unique sound and it helped me to find mine. They inspire me to make music that doesn’t conform to any category.
