Cult favourite Wes Anderson is due to release a new movie this summer with a twist.
Starring the usual suspects of Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody. Anderson adds to his cast with the addition of Scarlett Johansson, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Hong Chau, Liev Schreiber, Jeff Goldblum, Maya Hawke and Steve Carell. The film, titled Asteroid City is written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola.
The movie, which strays slightly from his usual storylines, follows an annual convention filled with student astronomers and their parental guardians. They gather at the site of an asteroid impact bringing about a cosmic shift in earthly culture and looks likely to feature appearances from alien visitors via flying saucer.
Be sure to expect plenty of the same trademark wooden acting from the director, along with smooth transitions. One thing we hope for is that the screenplay ameliorates the repetitive feeling Anderson’s prior movies render as his once unique trait of direction, now feels flat and boring. Let’s hope for the best.
Asteroid City is scheduled for a summer drop with an expected release date of June 16th following a screening at the Cannes Film Festival.
