tendai reveals ‘three.two’ | refreshing vocals and slick beats populate record | music review |

Sounds emanating from Canning Town kick start new wave moment.

VERDICT:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The Ivor Novello rising artist signed to 0207 Def Jam nominated for his unique approach to switching up sounds to encompass a fresh approach is a creative endeavour on all fronts. Presented as a cinematic work, tendai offers an abundance of multifaceted artworks for all kinds of listeners/watchers.

“… this record is what it sounds like to be in lundun right now, you know.” He continued – “I wanted more colour, more saturation in my music. there is an urgency, a rush of life & colour that I feel is locked in the sonic.”

His latest EP is a volley of three track EPs due to be released which include Ughh Parents evening, taken from the first batch ‘three.one’ and his latest single Why Can’t I is from three.two.

Though his style feels more New York than London there are influential aspects of the current swept in from across the Atlantic. Hitting notes of 00’s sound reminiscent of the era, we can jump on board the creative elements threaded throughout its visuals, adoptive of a modern era.

Tendai lends his style to a production of high value music that is, in essence built upon anticipation of its drop more than its content and provides an underground feel for more avant-garde listeners. However, there are portents of pop and funk genres embossed in and around its movie like soundtrack.

In the end, Tendai is accountable only to himself and cares little for the reviews from critics and the like, who, in the end will pick at his personal style of creativity that doesn’t just stop at the music.
