Young Thug – Business Is Business | Album Review

Young Thug releases his latest long play listing ‘Business Is Business’.

VERDICT:

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.

It may be a new album but, is it really new? Much of the content on Young Thug’s latest effort is compounded by a string of difficult-to-swallow pills straight from the homoeopathy line of medicine.

For one, Young Thug, real name Jeffrey Williams, has it in him to produce great verbalised writings though falls short when he mixes such talent with the sludge that is known as autotune. For the most part, Williams fails to escalate his potential when allowing features from rappers of uninspired capability. Though, Young Thug’s maximization barely makes it past the 20 out of 100 range as he discusses a myriad of subject matter that is somewhat dated and lacks any imagination.

Featuring rappers that, without good marketing behind them would be of unknown quantity such as Drake, 21 Savage, and Lil’ Uzi Vert, it becomes apparent the sort of junk that was intended to be distributed here. Furthermore, there is also a realisation of why Drake features with particular artists – so he can sound better than he actually is.

At times, songs such as ‘Cars bring me out’ raise expectations where Williams journeys into the realm of skill but for a topic that is just, boring. It features Future, who instantly lowers musical quality, and here again, the track, produced by Wheezy and Dez Wright is ruined. The same goes for Wit Da Racks, a posse cut that once again ventures into production beauty but, is void of proficiency.

Metro Boomin is a casualty of this project, with a catalogue of incredible production value wasted on such talentless rappers that perhaps grasp but a sliver of the title ‘artist’.

Is Business Is Business a good album? No. It is a sloppy rendering and damages the artist’s credibility by failing to prick the ears, and instead holds hostage an unintended victim in the form of Metro Boomin, whose beats are butchered by what I can only describe as the killers of Hip-Hop.
