Israeli strikes on Palestine leave four dead amid largest attack for years

Offensive against Palestine targets the refugee camp of Jenin in latest escalation of the conflict.

Attacks on Palestine continue following a major ground attack and aerial bombing of the city. The violence has left four Palestinians dead and many more wounded.

Israel’s defence force says they’re targeting a command center while tyres were set alight and smoke billowed into the sky.

A spokesperson for President Mahmoud Abbas called the violence “a new war crime against our defenceless people”.

A Palestinian ambulance driver was quoted saying: “What is going on in the refugee camp is real war,”. He continued: “There were strikes from the sky targeting the camp. Every time we drive in with around five to seven ambulances and we come back full with injured people.”

Israel claims they have killed three Palestinian fighters including four more overnight.

Why is Israel attacking Palestine?

Raids by the IDF have escalated in recent months following unprovoked attacks on multiple Palestinian towns and cities including the West Bank, where during the month of Ramadan, mosques were raided during prayer times and attendees were beaten and arrested.

The conflict began in 1948 following the invasion and colonisation by largely European Zionist groups, whose motivation was inspired by religious radicals and propaganda.
