Gaza: Concerns Over Civilian Impact as Israeli Lawmaker Proposes Nuclear Weapons

The United Nations Has Urged Israel to Review its Actions in Alignment With International Law

Israel has been condemned for breaching international law following the mass evacuation order for 1.1 million people encompassing half the Gaza Strip, an area the size of the Isle of Wight (approximately 141 sq meters).

With more than 4,200 people killed, 1,400 from Israel and 2,800 people killed in the Gaza strip within mere days, the situation has grown out of control.

One Million Displaced Without Food or Clean Water

One million people have been displaced in just 10 days following the Netanyahu regime’s mass evacuation order expelling Palestinians from Northern Gaza, an act Doctors Without Borders has called “outrageous” and an “attack on medical care and on humanity.”

The Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights: Ravina Shamdasani has called on the Israeli administration to show restraint:

“We urge the Israeli forces to avoid targeting civilians and civilian objects or conducting area bombardments, indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks, and to take precautions to avoid, and in any event to minimize, loss of civilian life, injury to civilians and damage to civilian objects.”

Israeli Lawmaker Proposes Nuclear Weapons

It has been revealed that there are extreme viewpoints among some Israeli lawmakers regarding responses to Hama’s cross-border attacks. A representative of the Knesset has called for nuclear weapons to be used against the group, which, if acted upon, could result in significant civilian casualties.

Tally Gotliv tweeted “Jericho missile! Jericho missile! A strategic alert, before we consider introducing our forces. A doomsday weapon!” The post was viewed 2.3 million times and has generated widespread condemnation and shockingly some support.

Israeli Air Force Bombs Rafah Crossing with Egypt

Earlier Israeli air strikes bombed the Rafah crossing into Egypt, which United Nations agencies are using to deliver aid. In response, Shamdasani said: “We urge the Israeli forces to avoid targeting civilians and civilian objects or conducting area bombardments, indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks, and to take precautions to avoid, and in any event to minimize, loss of civilian life, injury to civilians and damage to civilian objects.”

International law mandates that an occupying power must provide evacuees with adequate accommodation, food, water and hygiene facilities. The Israeli Air Force conducted air strikes preventing Gazans from accessing pumped water. This has left its residents rationed to just 500ml of bottled water daily, even though Tel-Aviv has restored the supply of running water to the region.

Spanish Ministers Call for Netanyahu to be Prosecuted for War Crimes

Elsewhere, Spanish ministers called for Benjamin Netanyahu to be prosecuted for war crimes, following Israel’s indiscriminate bombing of hospitals, doctors, ambulances, schools and places of worship. The Israeli administration responded by accusing them of choosing to ‘align with Hamas, echoing George Bush’s post-9/11 comments “You’re either with us, or you’re with the terrorists.” The Israeli Embassy to Spain said: “It is deeply worrying that certain elements within the Spanish government have chosen to align themselves with this kind of Isis-style terrorism at a time when Israel is mourning the loss of more than 1,300 innocent men, women and children who were brutally murdered.”
