Mystery explosions reported in occupied Syria.
A series of unexplained explosions has disrupted the vicinity of the Al-Omar Oil Field in eastern Deirezzor, where global coalition forces are currently stationed. The detonations have raised questions about the security and stability of the area.
The source and nature of these explosions are currently unknown, though the US has exclaimed it has seen an uptick in drone activity in the region, as reported by VOA Pentagon correspondent Carla Babb. “Clearly this is an uptick in terms of the types of drone activity we’ve seen in Iraq and Syria,” the Pentagon Press Secretary was quoted as saying.
Deirezzor, known for its complex and volatile environment, has posed ongoing challenges for coalition and Syrian forces, having had to contend with militias including Daesh.
Daesh have recently upped the ante in Syria, having targeted oil fields as a matter of priority as exhibited in the past in Iraq, particularly Al Qayyarah to secure funding through the sale of petroleum.
More to come.
