Shocking testimonies describe harrowing torture and assault against Palestinian abductees.
A group of Israeli settlers and soldiers stand accused of subjecting Palestinian prisoners to stripping, burning, and urinating on them, actions drawing comparisons to the treatment of prisoners at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison.
The victims shared their harrowing experience with Haaretz daily on Thursday, providing a detailed account of their ordeal. They alleged that they were stripped down to their underwear and bound before being photographed by Israeli troops and settlers. These incidents occurred in Wadi al-Seeq, an area that had already witnessed increased violence by Israeli settlers against the local Palestinian population.
Human rights of Palestinians violated
Two of the prisoners shared harrowing accounts of enduring severe torture, which included having cigarettes extinguished on their bodies. Another victim painfully recounted experiencing sexual assault through attempts to sodomize him.
The IDF claims that the lead officer in question was dismissed from his post.
B’Tselem, an Israeli human rights group said: “Amidst the Gaza war, settlers are advancing the state’s plan for the Judaization of Area C. The conflict in the Gaza Strip has triggered a surge in violence within the West Bank, resulting in the deaths of 62 Palestinians by the hands of soldiers and settlers, with many more left injured, all in just ten days.”
Four activists, including two Palestinians (26-year-old Muhammad Mattar and 27-year-old Muhammad Khaled) and two Israelis, intended to depart for Ramallah. However, their plans were halted when they were blocked by an IDF-marked truck, which alleged that they were plotting militant activities. They were subjected to physical assault, restrained, and subsequently detained. The Palestinian activists were transported to an abandoned building, where their assailants forcibly removed their clothing with a knife, instructing them to lie face down in only their underwear.
The group endured torture at the hands of Israeli soldiers, involving acts such as having their fingernails forcibly pulled, being subjected to urination, being burned with lit cigarettes, and having their faces forced into excrement. They were further subjected to sexual assault, including sodomization with a pole.
