A Guide to Urging Your MP to Support a Ceasefire in Gaza

Advocate for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas by urging your MP with our customisable template letter for effective action.

Tomorrow, British MPs are set to vote on a motion urging a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The ongoing conflict has claimed over 11,000 lives, with more than two-thirds of the casualties being children.

The motion, proposed by the SNP (Scottish National Party), emphasises the need for the government to “collaborate with the international community in urgently urging all parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire.”

To drive change, it’s crucial to exert pressure on your MP by expressing your concerns. We’ve prepared a template letter that you can use as a basis for reaching out to your local constituency representative. Copy and paste the template to make your voice heard.

You may also choose to include specific details that you personally found distressing.

Template letter to contact your MP urging them for a ceasefire:

Dear (insert your local MP here)

I write to express my deep concern and sorrow regarding the recent events in which thousands of lives have been lost in Gaza following the indiscriminate bombings by the Israeli authorities. The deaths of 11,000 people, two-thirds of which include women and children, are a tragedy.

For the past 75 years, Israel has occupied Palestine, resulting in numerous human rights violations. These transgressions include acts of murder, forced disappearances, and mass displacements. Within an hour, any member of the Palestinian community can vacate their home, only to be swiftly replaced by an individual from any corner of the world. This settler expansion is illegal under international law. These circumstances have fueled the 2023 conflict, widely characterised by many as a genocide, a classification that aligns with the criteria outlined by Professor Gregory Stanton in his seminal work.

The reports of heinous acts, include children being found without their heads, and babies having to be removed from intensive care further intensify the pain and shock surrounding these events. In the face of such a grave situation, I urge you to use your platform to condemn the actions that have led to this senseless loss of life.

It is disheartening that, to date, there has been no explicit condemnation from you towards the Tel Aviv government. As my representative, I implore you to publicly denounce these acts and call for accountability from the relevant authorities, as you have against Hamas.

Our community looks to its leaders for guidance and reassurance during times of crisis. Your condemnation of these actions would not only reflect the values of our constituency but also send a strong message about the importance of human rights and justice.

I trust that you will appreciate the gravity of the situation and take swift action to address this issue. You yourself have acknowledged that this could have repercussions in the Middle East, a scenario that can only be avoided if a ceasefire is called for. Your leadership and commitment to accountability will be pivotal in bringing solace to our grieving community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

(Insert name and address)
