Beloved Disney children’s character gets a bloody slasher makeover.
As the original Mickey Mouse (Steamboat Willie) enters the public domain, the 1st of January heralded an intriguing announcement based upon a long running gag turning beloved children’s characters into tongue-in-cheek slasher movies.
‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap’ is a Canadian horror comedy following a group of close friends trapped inside an amusement arcade, hence the title of the movie. But this is not the first time a Disney character has got the horror treatment.
Last year, Winnie the Pooh was adapted into a horror film titled ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.’ The film documents how Christopher Robin enrols for college, leaving Pooh and Piglet to look after themselves. But when they get a taste for blood, they begin a bloody rampage to fulfil their new found substitute for honey.
No doubt the Disney board are in tears over such a reimagining, though there is nothing they can legally do.
It is due for release in March, and is directed by Jaime Bailey.
