Israel has increased its attacks on Gaza with targeted airstrikes that killed 45 internally displaced Palestinians sheltered in tents.
Israel’s push into Gaza has been met with backlash and condemnation, as it unravels in real time. Its quest to invade and occupy the remainder of Palestine following its inception has led to a bloody genocide under the guise of an assault to “eliminate” Hamas.
With catchy slogans such as “Hamas is ISIS”, they attempted to rally the world to their cause under the banner of fighting antisemitism; a constant reason cited for the creation of Israel. However, any form of criticism of the Tel Aviv regime has always been countered using these slogans, despite the lack of justification for recent events they initiated.
Rafah is the final place of refuge for Palestinians
More than 1.5 million people are now sheltering in Rafah, which constitutes just 20 percent of Gaza. Before the invasion, Gaza’s 2 million civilians were spread throughout the administrative district. Rory Moylan, the British Red Cross’ head of Middle East and North African operations, said: “Over 1.5 million people are sheltering in Rafah, many living on the streets in makeshift shelters, with little access to food and water, and other basic essentials.”
Overnight, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) carried out aerial strikes and began a ground offensive in the city of Rafah, which, before the recent assault on Gaza, was home to just 171,000 people. With Palestinians forced to flee south due to Israel’s recent hostilities, the population density has further increased.
The IOF’s move into Rafah has resulted in the killing of 45 civilians seeking safety in a makeshift tent camp, in an area designated a “safe zone” by the Israeli government. Israel claims it was targeting Hamas fighters. In a statement, they said “…the IDF is aware of reports indicating that as a result of the strike and fire that was ignited several civilians in the area were harmed. The incident is under review.” They added that they were carrying out actions “against legitimate targets under international law” as part of a statement in response to the bombings. The IOF continues to disregard legal frameworks, despite having been ordered to cease hostilities in Rafah.
Based on the Israeli military’s conduct in Gaza, and statements made by Netanyahu in the past, Israel is continuing to seek control over Gaza to absorb it as part of Israel. Something Israeli officials do not deny.
Gaza faces the same fate as 1930’s Ukraine and 1940’s India
Israel has cut off electricity and water, and prevented aid from entering the country, creating a man-made starvation similar to the Holodomor, an artificial famine imposed by Stalin on Ukraine during the 1930s.
To achieve this, Stalin prevented food and supplies from reaching civilians in the country, and the agricultural industry was forbidden from practising their trade further leading to the deaths of millions. The same was carried out on Churchill’s orders in India, which led to the Bengal famine.
What is expected to happen in Gaza?
With a catastrophic lack of aid finding its way through to Gazans, there is an increased threat to human life, with many aid agencies ready to declare a humanitarian disaster in the region. Without the necessities we in the West take for granted such as food, electricity and clean water, sanitation will decline and with this, disease will thrive. Palestinians are already being targeted without impunity, and squeezing Gaza of its human right to sustenance and access to basic hygiene is a second assault on their right to exist.
Let us not forget, that this is not the first time Gaza has faced such a dire set of circumstances, with Israel always behind the region’s descent into crisis. Never has Tel Aviv faced such a degrading moment, and that should tell you everything you need to know.
