Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu 2024 Trailer Conjures True Gothic Horror

The vampire myth returns to the silver screen, in an adaptation of a frightening classic.

Vampires are back in, thanks to the bloodsucking trailer for the highly anticipated ‘Nosferatu’ adaptation. The film stars Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Emma Corrin, and Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok.

In the trailer, you’ll see all the quintessential hallmarks of a traditional horror story including moonlit gothic architecture, rats and mice scurrying across the screen against a backdrop of a bell towers and blue and grey hues that enhance the atmosphere.

The production is a retelling of ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’, first filmed as an unofficial adaptation and released in 1922. Since then, it has garnered an incredible following thanks to its eerie lighting and spooky compositions.

The original is now in the public domain and free to watch.

Robert Eggers’ rendition of the source material has been expected for some time, with many viewers excited by his portfolio of horror films, which includes ‘The Lighthouse.’

The trailer itself is a spectacle delivering exactly what we anticipated from the director. Brooding shadows and stunning cinematography adorn the screen, while his casting choices stoke eagerness to see the movie. Interestingly, Nosferatu is never shown in the trailer, leaving an air of suspense before the film has even been released.

What is the plot?

The story is reminiscent of Dracula, in which a vampire becomes infatuated with a young woman; that is the synopsis provided by the production house. If you want to find out more, you needn’t look further than the original plot, which offers further details: Count Orlok calls for estate agent Thomas Hutter to negotiate the purchase of a property in Wisborg, Germany at his Transylvanian castle. But Hutter soon discovers Orlok’s true identity.

When will it be released?

Nosferatu is slated for release in cinemas 3rd January 2025, and will be distributed by Focus Features.
