Fede Alverez’s new sci-fi rendition of the beloved xenomorph movie sees a lot of action – but little suspense.
Fede Alvarez is rumoured to have said he held back on revealing too much for the Alien: Romulus trailer. But having seen it, that’s a bad thing. the franchise works better when we see little.
Much of the success for Alien was driven by the unknown, seeded through chaotic scenes as the crew of the tug Nostromo grapple with mortality.
Since the first film landed, we have only really seen one worthy successor, which was captained by director James Cameron, while fans of the franchise lament studio interference of the third picture, directed by David Fincher.
In the latest iteration of the Romulus promo, we see a lot happening, and by that, perhaps too much? Though the action scenes might be something to be excited by, our previous points mean it could either be a disaster or an achievement. You decide.
