Friday is the one day of the week we are disclosed a flurry of new musical releases. And oftentimes they’re highly anticipated. But in today’s world of entertainment, technology has fragmented our listening pool, thanks to instant uploads accessible to all artists.
Sabrina Carpenter uses her cauldron of talents to string a plethora of epochs together. Well, at least that’s what it feels like.
Safe-Bet Music with Flawless Delivery
Fortifying her lyrics with undertones of immaturity, belligerency, confidence and extroversion ‘Short n’ Sweet‘ screams ‘I really don’t care.’ It plays with a euphony of various genres and is the linchpin of its appeal. Though its core is centred within a pop nucleus, it reaches out into a spectrum of alternate musical types.
Her viral single ‘Espresso,’ sparked this year’s resurgence and has since become an essential summer listen. Her honest style of writing, which is candid yet assertive, is complemented by her polished delivery.
This explains her mass appeal which has also allowed her to pivot between tempos, giving her broad support as a likable pop artist for fans of the genre.
VERDICT:
Offering an infectious variety of songs, Carpenter will appease frequent listeners but will come across as quite generic. It will be the album of the year for fashion outlets to play in the background, but I doubt we will look back in ten years reminiscing on this one. While it isn’t overtly amazing, it is enjoyable enough to quash any idea of it being subpar.
