Horror genre makes a stylish return in a star-studded spectacle full of disconcerting narratives.

Since it was released to curious viewers everywhere, it has become one of the most hyped movies of the year. Thanks to the pageantry of its trailer which showcases the art of cinematography, The Substance is shaping up to be an intriguing feature. 

Who Is The Cast?

Starring Demi Moore and Dennis Quaid, the film follows a struggling celebrity coming to terms with the decline of her career. Her character ‘Elizabeth Sparkle’ feels she can remedy her insecurities, by turning to an underground drug capable of revitalising a youthful version of herself. This leads to a spiralling series of events that discombobulate her life.

The trailer is quite the event in itself, thanks to its melodic sequencing and carefully chosen close ups. Quaid’s character, known as Harvey, is particularly maniacal against a backdrop of Hollywood’s demands.

Moore’s portrayal is particularly atmospheric as Elizabeth Sparkle. She transitions into what we presumed is ‘Sue,’ the second protagonist of the picture. All in all, the project comes across to be a promising sign of the film industry getting its ideas back for cinema.

It has been some time since a decent body-horror movie has come to be, and with the likes of Coralie Fargeat, known for 2017 thriller ‘Revenge’, at the helm, we can expect a good night out.
