‘Alien: Earth’ – What You Need To Know About The TV Series

Noah Hawley’s upcoming TV series has fans excited for another Xenomorph story.

The LV426 train doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, thanks to the folks at 20th Century Fox’s FX.

With Disney tagging along for the ride, the wheels may yet fall off, thanks to its interventions which have historically backfired.

Details In The Trailer

Alien: Romulus was a nightmare for long standing fans of the franchise. While it pleased the uninitiated, it soured its relationship with long-term viewers despite its commercial success. This brings us to a new round of potential ideas, notably Alien: Earth, which many have high hopes for.

A still from the trailer features a Xenomorph.

In the teaser, the narrator’s voice is heard saying, “In 2120, Mother Earth is expecting.” We then see a wide shot of our planet before a rippling movement begins. It soon becomes apparent that the previous composition was a reflection on the head of a Xenomorph drone, salivating and staring in the direction of the pale blue dot.

We are then shown a cascade of teaser shots from episodes of the series, including a pale-skinned being, an egg, and fingers that seem to be from inside a vestibule like sac.

The Plot

The sci-fi horror television series is set in the year 2120, two years before Alien (1979), following a strange spaceship that crash lands on Earth. A squadron of marines, led by a young woman (Wendy), locates the vessel but discover the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Noah Hawley talks about the show with The Hollywood Reporter.

It is set to explore the relationship between the Xenomorphs and the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, focusing particularly on themes of corporate greed and the sacrifices we make as they pursue their bottom line.

Who Is Directing and Starring In the Series?

The show is written, directed, and produced by Noah Hawley, known for the hit show Fargo and the Marvel story Legion. Both projects have been well-received by fans of their franchises, leading us to assume his latest effort could achieve widespread acclaim

Hawley has historically selected fantastic casts for both projects. Fargo’s diverse screenplays, which require a wide range of characters, have been met with great success.

Alien: Earth appears to have chosen a cast that truly looks the part. If you’re an aficionado of the franchise, you’ll recognise that their appearance aligns with past iterations of movies. They include Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling, Sugar), Timothy Olyphant (Justified, Snowden) Alex Lawther (Andor), and Essie Davis (The Babadook, Assassin’s Creed).

Ridley Scott is an executive producer, and depending on which side of the fence you’re on, this could be seen as either a good or bad thing. The series is a joint venture between his production company, Scott Free, and 20th Century Fox.

Expectations For The New Show

It’s reassuring to have someone with a proven track record at the helm. Considering Fede Alvarez’s abysmal prequel, we could once again be handed a faux pas—but this seems highly unlikely given Hawley’s track record.

The 1979 trailer for Alien

The franchise hasn’t yet entered into episodic TV territory, and so to see another take on one of the greatest alien designs in sci-fi history seek a remedy in another domain could be preferable to Hollywood’s quick cash grabs.

One of the biggest priorities for this series will be to dilute the deteriorating lore that Ridley Scott has introduced. The mystery and fear that the creature evokes is beginning to evaporate.

When Will It Stream?

It is slated for a summer 2025 release and will air on both FX and Hulu.
