The highly-anticipated sequel to the acclaimed 1996 hip-hop album ‘Muddy Waters’ has been teased by the rapper.
Redman recently took to Instagram to tease the long awaited sequel to his 1996 album, sharing the artwork along with the title: ‘Muddy Waters Too’, captioning it “YEP.” Read our review here.
The Funk Doctor Spock has been a constant force in the hip-hop scene, with a huge catalogue of consistent quality music that anchors this point.
Having teased the album for years, it was delayed due to personal reasons, followed by the global pandemic. Fans were excited when he dropped the single So Cool (scroll down to watch the video) from the forthcoming project.
Producers and Singles
We’re all itching to hear what he has in store for us, and we got a sneak peek of what to expect. Red has produced most songs himself, with additions by others including Rockwilder and Rick Rock.
Review: ‘Muddy Waters Too’ – Redman Is Wicked on New Album
The Newark native released the first single, Don’t Wanna C Me Rich, a funky tribute to his own style, accompanied by a video. It’s a quintessential depiction of the How High rapper, complete with trademark flows and oddball antics.
He once again dropped another Gilla classic with the song Jersey, a bass-led track produced by Da Rockwilder. Simultaneously, visuals for it were released by the former Def Jam lyricist.
The previewed taster appears somewhat different from its predecessors. Featuring his stylistically comedic flow, the tempo is noticeably a contrast to the rapper’s previous productions.
Compared to older tracks, he remains sonically true to his technique when played back-to-back with classics like Whateva Man and Do What Ya Feel. Perhaps the video skews our perception.
The Artwork
Along with the classic red logo, the Reggie Noble brand still appears to be on point. The first instalment of what we hope will be a series, pictures the lyricist sitting on a chair in a house covered in mud.
The follow up sees him return to the same location, but this time crouched outside in the foreground.
Who Will Feature On It?
The tracklist is 32 songs long with a duration of 1 hour 28 minutes. The New Jersey microphone warrior has a history of collaborating with rappers including Erick Sermon and Method Man. This time he recruits the latter, including Snoop Dogg, KRS-One, Naughty By Nature, Sheek Louch, and Queen Latifah.
Judging by the reaction of the three on social media, it seems like they knew the depth of this album all along.
Release Date
The project was released today (24th December 2024) at midnight. The former Def Jam man teased the project for a number of years, but it failed to materialise. However, this time around, things are different, thanks to some solid single drops and a confirmed publication date.
