Bossman Dlow Rolls Out Terrible Music On ‘Dlow Curry’

It’s been a good year for hip-hop album releases, but they can’t all be winners.

Bossman Dlow simply didn’t appear at work one day, and this album is the result of that. There aren’t many records that fall on the low end of the spectrum and occasionally, some rappers decide not to show up at all. This is one of those times.

Dlow Curry is merely passing through like a concession stand at a pop up market. Its sole purpose sounds like it is to turn a profit rather than showcase artistic effort.

What It Sounds Like

In all honesty, it isn’t worth the time to write about. It feels stagnant, destitute of effort, and a product of someone who likes the idea of, rather than to be a hip-hop artist.

At times, Dlow brushes with potential, but it’s always a false start. Against a backdrop of uninspired beats and overused tropes, the aural aesthetic here is amateurish. Lyrically, most of the verses are rushed and lack compositional execution, and their delivery often feels disjointed and, at times, out of rhythm.

The features on this record correlate with this sentiment through lackluster appearances from rappers like Ice Spice and Lil Baby. The production isn’t adventurous and stays within a safe space so as to please groups rather than listeners.

Verdict

Rating: 1 out of 5.

If ever there was a compass to see where hip-hop is headed, then I hope this one is wrong. The musical arrangement resembles last minute leftovers, stripped of curatorial intent, perhaps created on a now unsupported version of early production software.

Even if the music was better, the duration of each song is so short they would be wasted compositions.

This album feels like a squandered opportunity and steals the limelight from someone more deserving. The Floridian rapper has released a project with profligate intent and perhaps Dlow Curry should have stayed in the hard drive.
