The legend that is Erykah Badu is reportedly working on a collaborative album with producer The Alchemist (real name Alan Maman). It will mark her first album in 14 years, with the beatmaker describing it as “life-altering.”
Maman is equally respected in the hip-hop scene, with a plethora of projects released over the past year, including solo, experimental song released in December. He is also working on music with Yasiin Bey, while Badu has a project in the works with Madlib.
What We Know So Far
Studio sessions have already taken place, with The Alchemist reportedly over the moon with the way the project is going. Badu rarely misses, with a flawless discography to her name, including the albums Baduizm and Mama’s Gun.

This collaboration likely stems from Erykah’s touring schedule, having performed regularly in her hometown of Dallas, where she shared the stage with artists including Rapsody. The singer has hosted an annual birthday bash every year since 2013, featuring performers like Yasiin Bey, Dave Chappelle, and her former partner André 3000. This is where she met her veteran producer for upcoming music.
The Queen of Neo Soul is known for her distinctive and smooth vocals, and seamlessly fits with a mixture of tempos, something that aligns well with the style of the hip-hop producer. Fans are rightly excited by prospect of the release, with Instagram users commenting, saying,”Can’t truly wait to hear it,” and “We’re SAT for this crossover!” Another said,”Absolutely! “We’ve been waiting on Badu for years so adding alchemist to the mix makes the wait sweeter.”
Release Date
We can potentially expect the album to drop soon. Given the two have been in the studio for a while, and judging by Maman’s comments, a fluid workflow is in place, hopefully making its transition to release closer than we think.
