Cole Stacey – If It Helps (Official Music Video)

Fast forward another year, and it’s Cole Stacey, one half of the ever-talented group, who has ventured into new territory with his debut solo album, Postcards From Lost Places.

What It Sounds Like

Comprised of a folky, blues-style, Stacey describes it as Americana. I’d very much align this with an introspective, personal project that evokes a sense of a journey; one we’re all invited on.

The singer-songwriter captured ambient sounds from historic locations to augment a sense of history, lost memories, and regeneration. This also helps enhance the narratives painted within each song, most notably on tracks such as Castles by the Sea, a short track featuring Guy Andrews. Despite its duration, it vividly persuades the listener through an overgrowth of a cosy ambient atmosphere.

Its sensory depictions are heavily overlaid with an audible arc of earthy soundscapes, which seamlessly transition from one song to another. From a textural standpoint, it is sonically interwoven with a heartbeat of ethereal longings for home.

Verdict

It’s a breathtaking venture into solo territory for the minimalist musician. Highly experimental and full of thematic displays that enhance his story arcs, Cole Stacey has won over our hearts.

From a baseline viewpoint, Postcards From Lost Places gives listeners fresh sounds of the unexpected. He beautifully taps into a multilayered spectrum of songwriting while holding on tight to his origins. It is a beautiful project, filled with emotional depth and intimate reflections.
