Marvel Studios has announced a bare-bones and tiresome teaser for their upcoming film.
There’s been so much hype surrounding this movie since it was first announced that Robert Downey Jr. is to star in the lead as Doctor Doom. Since that day, internet chatter has permeated the digital space, with many welcoming him to the role, but a lot more in disagreement.
One of many critiques for his casting as the villainous madman was the actor’s ability to portray him well on-screen. He did so marginally well as Iron Man, though his portrayal of Tony Stark could have been better if production was executed through a higher-quality of direction. That goes for most Marvel movies, with only a handful being considered great cinematic outings such as Sam Raimi’s Spider-man, Iron Man, Ant Man and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1.

The return of several characters from the comic-book universe’s pool of arcs sees it expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with a slightly new dynamic. However, many argue that the frequent use of a multiverse is becoming tiresome, causing each franchise to lose its allure when translated to the screen. In short, there’s a reason why superhero movies such as Batman and the first rendition of Spider-Man worked: they were the focus, and their extraordinary powers in a normal world feel truly incredible thanks to an intimate and grounded documentation of their struggles.
When is Filming Set to Begin
Filming is set to begin next month (April) in London and will conclude in August 2025. Set construction has already kicked off, and Liam Hemsworth has been spotted at various locations since the rumour mill jettisoned into full swing.
The British city has previously acted as a backdrop for several storylines, including, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Doctor Strange (2016), and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). However, the last time production set foot in the UK was more than ten years ago for the the Age of Ultron instalment for The Avengers.
The MCU often favours Great Britain thanks to its remarkable architecture, but largely, this is owed to favourable tax breaks that productions are given. Since the launch of several new studios, more filmakers are choosing the European nation as a destination for cinema.
Reaction: What are the Fans Saying?
Reactions have been mixed with some fans expressing their dissatisfaction with how over-the-top things have gotten. One Redditor told fellow comic-buffs not to get their hopes up, “Age of Ultron pt 2. It’ll be fine but nothing crazy.” while another said: “my prediction is I won’t watch it in theaters,” while others responded with a comical remark: Action movies trailers: “we need more explosions” Marvel: “nah. Chairs.”
Released Date
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is set to release exclusively in theaters May 1, 2026.
