Fresh track from the UK rapper introduces a playful element for her upcoming album, Lotus
Brimming with artistic experience, UK rapper Little Simz has unleashed her older self on an unsuspecting public. In a cryptic post on social media, she revealed a redesigned version of herself, reconstructed using prosthetics.
In a message accompanying the publication, she says: “How do I unlock this bloodclart,” referring to her newly applied make-up. Turns out, it’s for new music.
What Young Sounds Like
The track she is referring to is Young, a new single taken from her upcoming album, Lotus. Unlike her previous songs, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, as it details the flawed essence of youth and, at times, the consequences it brings – represented in lines like: “Yeah, we’re just young and dumb.”

The production – handled by Miles Clinton James – effuses a light pagination of bass and drum loops that accent the rapper’s latest, culminating in its catatonic, defiant sense of angst.
The Verdict
Simz once again showcases her gallant mood for chasing different frames to interpret hip-hop, without having to piggyback on an industry ride set by others in the genre. It’s a restoring segment of a piece that will keep the UK game of jenga rap up; one that has me anticipating the complete album even more.
Where to Stream the New Song
The fresh drop is catalogued under the forthcoming album and can be streamed on all major platforms. You can also pre-ordered on vinyl.
