‘Welcome to Derry’ is another Stephen King adapation with potential, but it could drain the mystery from the supernatural clown’s origins

IT the clown is an iconic character, thanks to the exploits of Stephen King‘s creative mind. The adaptation starring Tim Curry was a fantastic undertaking, but recent attempts to recreate the same atmospheric alliance between script, direction, and cinematography aren’t hitting the spot.
A new prequel show from HBO Max, delving into the origins of the paranormal creature, is set to take over screens this summer. First impressions seem okay, and there’s definitely an atmospheric wedge of ethereal happenings. The actor responsible for the return of Pennywise, Bill Skarsgård, makes a comeback, jumping from feature presentation to television series.

However, an important point isn’t being raised. Amongst the promotional production trails online lies an excitement for a television show that will keep butts in seats—but it also has the potential to ruin a perfectly good story. Do we really need to know his origins? Isn’t the mystery of his origins far more terrifying than being force-fed answers for his evolution?
