It’s an interesting time for Superman. He’s going through a renewal of sorts: a reinvented comic book storyline, new beginnings, and he’s switched handlers again to James Gunn. That said, I have some reservations.
Zack Snyder’s iteration was also a phenomenal flop, and while the upcoming motion picture appears to have a great storyline, there are flaws amongst the facets.

In the trailer, we witness new moments, including a stand off between the Man of Steel and Guy Gardner, an animated goon squad led by a cussing Lex Luthor, and more insight into the screenplay unfolds. There’s also a weird baby gun.
The Effects Look Terrible
For a multi-million dollar production, the effort seems tawdry. In comparison to our first look, the rumours of revisions, delays, reshoots and more, are all starting to make sense.
The final trailer looks unpolished, and even if it works on the big screen it won’t survive the test of time for home viewing. The proof in the pudding? Screening it on a 4K.
The Verdict
While the story looks to be a great prospect, it’s — currently — let down by budget special effects. As we’ve said before, the introduction of additional characters from the DC cinematic universe is welcome — but it comes at a cost — lazy rendering.
Let’s hope that the ‘Absolute’ storyline comes to fruition.
