The legendary duo return to the spotlight with their new single, So Be It. The track also fires shots at Travis Scott for a past incident.

While the track is a stellar release, I can’t help but wonder what’s going on in Pusha’s mind as he reaches for more.

What So Be It Sounds Like

The two rappers simultaneously dropped a music video directed by Hunnan Hussain, featuring pin-sharp monochromatic imaging. Leaning into a cinematic torpedo of visuals, the final product is an applaud-worthy display of directorial beauty.

In true style, the lyricists slam hard with clinical precision. Employing calculated flows alongside synchronised, sleek written cuts, the rappers showcase their proficiency for consistency and skill.

The quality of their reach remains extraordinary, with an understanding of the importance merging cadence to pen, and flow to finish.

“When I was born, grandmama could see it,
I be Bentley driven and very strategic,
R.M. sleeve, no diamonds are needed,
Floors are heated, so be it, so be it,
Fuckin’ with P, get somethin’ immediate” – Pusha T

Its production features a stripped-back composition upheld by a south Asian-like melody, with frequent intervals of reversed violins.

However, the artists throw shade at fellow rapper Travis Scott for an alleged incident at Pharrell’s studio. Shortly after the recording session, Scott released Meltdown, a track featuring Toronto rapper Drake, which Pusha saw as disrespectful.

In an interview with GQ, the rapper said: “He don’t have no picks, no loyalty to nobody. He’ll jump around whatever he feels is hot or cling onto whatever he feels is hot.”

Later, the artist doubled down saying: “It’s Travis. He’s harmless… I took it there… He’s shameless. You’ve seen him do it to everybody.”

The Verdict

It’s a good start for the Clipse campaign, but the beef is likely overblown with the two looking for things that probably aren’t there. While I understand why he would be concerned by his actions, Scott has collaborated with Drake before.

Remaining within a tonality characteristic of both, No Malice returns with sharper lips than ever.

How to Hear it

So Be It is not currently available to stream, but it will likely drop soon on all platforms, including YouTube Music, Tidal, Apple, and Spotify. It’s released independent and distributed by Roc Nation.
