Rapper Phantom FTB is an emerging artist from East London and is just getting started. He is this week’s subject in our new series: THERMAL.
When and how did you get into rhyming?
“I first got into music like 4 years ago if that but then started taking it serious in 2024.
What’s the story behind the name?
“Long story—I got stabbed and died. But I came back, so I called myself Phantom after an evil ghost. It’s my new ego; before that I went by G2”
How would you describe your style?
“My style is versatile, but outside music, I’m easy and outgoing”
What are the core motifs in your work?
“Focusing on the bigger picture and thinking outside the box when listening to beats and music”
Who produces your music, and what connected you?
“At first I had an engineer named Pablo, but his time keeping wan’t the best. After this, I started producing for myself”
Who influenced you to consider hip-hop as a genre?
“Well hip-hop wasn’t a subject I would of chosen, but then I adapted to it thanks to one of my pals.”

What’s your favourite spot to write?
“My favourite spot? To be honest, I don’t really have one, it just depends on where I am and the mood I am in.”
Which non-music figure inspires you?
“My mum. Without her, I wouldn’t be here.”
What’s your main concern with the industry right now?
“I have none whatsoever yet, I haven’t got that far to say I have concerns. I’m just gonna wait and see where music takes me.”
What industry changes do you feel musicians should prepare for in the future?
“Well to be honest — in and out of the industry, there’s always going to be changes for musicians engineers etc”
