The R&B artist ramps up campaign for his upcoming new album “Icon”
Sensational R&B artist Brent Faiyaz (born Christopher Brent Wood) returns as he begins an explosive campaign rollout for his upcoming album, Icon.
The singer released two new singles, true-to-style of the vocalist: Peter Pan and Tony Soprano. We explore the latter of the two — a hard hitting diarist effort.
What Tony Soprano Sounds Like
As expected, Wood’s new track encompasses a lion-style swagger as he stylistically executes a show of force. This is showcased through his curation of soft, yet controlled and domineering soundscapes.

The artist emotionally capitulates in song, describing the trials of leadership and becoming the boss of himself and his career. This is evidenced in lines like: “I wish that I could breathe underwater…”, alluding to the difficulties of working under pressure.
It’s a true Brent Faiyaz type beat, crafted by an assortment of producers, including Hardheaded.
Meaning Behind the Song
The title and meaning behind the song are inspired by the hit TV show, The Sopranos. The protagonist and head of the family, Tony, is famously under pressure and emotionally vulnerable due to his lifestyle and constant threats on his life.
In the show, he regularly visits a psychiatrist and suffers from frequent panic attacks.

This is likely what Wood references as the inspiration for his new single and his career’s effects of being a strong character, though compositionally delicate.
The Verdict
It’s an interesting time for the R&B game, but the multi-platinum selling songwriter is in no way backed into a corner. His skill with a pen and performance is once again front and centre, armed with the fortitude we’ve come to expect from the Maryland-born master of vocalisations.
How to Stream it
Tony Soprano is available to stream on all major platforms including Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon, YouTube, and more.
Icon Album Themes
You guessed it — based on the first two song titles, it appears Faiyaz will name each track after famous figures and icons.
While more details are yet to emerge, his new project is shaping up to be an intriguing release. More to come.
