New Film ‘Bugonia’ Spotlights Aliens and Conspiracies

It feels like movies are coming back. Marking a small turn to the power of stories that inspire intrigue, a new sci-fi comedy film promises to bring back mystery to the silver screen. Bugonia is that movie, and teases a fun script.

The Plot is Out of this World

With an out of this world plot set against the backdrop of a contemporary world, two conspiracy theorists believe that a powerful CEO of a major corporation is an alien overlord. Her goal? Destroy planet Earth. Their plan? Kidnap her.

Cast and Production Details

The film features a dynamic cast comprising of Emma Stone as the alleged extraterrestrial, Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis as the warped kidnappers, while Alicia Silverstone, Parvinder Shergill, and Stavros Halkias work in supporting roles.

Bugonia is a remake of the 2003 Korean film Save the Green Planet!

It’s directed by Greek born director Yorgos Lanthimos (of Poor Things fame) who returns with a narrative promising to tickle our funny bones with a pinch of drama.

The screenplay is inspired by Korean director Jang Joon-hwan’s 2003 film Save the Green Planet!

Release Date

The film is due for a cinematic worldwide Halloween release, on the 31st October 2025. It will be distributed by Focus Features, CJ ENM, and Universal Pictures.
