“AI Slop” YouTube Reels in Artificially Created Content

The rise of automated tools have pushed the video hosting giant to set higher standards

YouTube has issued a warning to AI content creators that they will not be financially compensated for “inauthentic” videos following the exponential rise of automated tools.

While the company hasn’t explicitly used such language, official silence and a refusal to comment on the situation makes this a more likely scenario.

Who Will Be Affected?

From July 15th 2025, YouTube’s Partner Program (YPP) will cease to allow monetisation of mass produced video content repurposed without merit. In a statement, the Alphabet owned company said:

“YouTube is updating our guidelines to better identify mass-produced and repetitious content. This update better reflects what “inauthentic” content looks like today.”

While the change was expected, many are still unsure as to what it really means. However, YouTube Head of Editorial & Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie elaborated, telling concerned creators that it will only affect repetitive uploads.

But this could mean both short and long form videos produced using AI voiceovers and other automated tools are at risk.

Why are They Doing This?

Allowing AI uploads to flourish has reduced user experience on the platform. This could pose a risk to the company’s value. Automated material has, quite frankly, dragged it closer to a place they don’t want to be associated with.

As prompt generated content becomes ubiquitous, genuine crafted projects will become more in-demand. Authenticity is still what consumers crave.

Since its rise, YouTube has been flooded with generic, low-effort posts. Much of this parrots information already circulating on the platform, and has done for years.

It’s safe to say that, AI generated content is fast becoming the junk mail of the internet. Will it come to be? We will have to wait a few days.
