The pop group say the song is based on a real person

New music Friday often loses its meaning. Thanks to being inundated with an ever increasing number of (what feels like) debilitating new music notifications, it can feel like something to check later.
Today though, Nicotine Dolls gave us something to care about; their new single Anna is a powerful breath of fresh air, culminating in a meaty 1980s-style rock ballad.
What Anna Sounds Like
Gently opening with strokes of piano keys, the pop band lay the groundwork for what is sure to be a song that will blow most of us away.
The song opens on notes of recognition against a moment of highlight that softly whips into a faster tempo. The crew sing, until the track roars into a fast tempo of loud strings and percussion.
“Anna, there’s something about your smile, And I, I haven’t felt this way in a while,”
Slick, fun, and beefy — its been a while since the music scene got something like this — but once in a while, we’re reminded. Clocking in at 3:39, it’s a demonstration in how to build, sustain and hold the listeners attention.
Verdict
We’re here to slap alongside a crazy tune that inspires a throwback. It’s an anthem, a flagship song, and a lead single all in one that cultivates a sense of intrigue.
It’s a severely cheesy piece of pop, but its rock elements give it an edge where most acts fail. This is a track all artists should take note of.
A self-confessional brace of strength, the group say their new single is one of personal significance — it’s based on a real person. Anna — are you out there? Get in touch.
