Welsh singer-songwriter Nia Wyn journals her thoughts on new single
All around talent Nia Wyn has released a new single Can’t Get No Love ‘Round Here, a light tuft of strings and bass set against the backdrop of the singer-songwriter’s exquisite vocals.
What Can’t Get No Love ‘Round Here Sounds Like
There’s a crisp and nostalgic 8mm vibe going on here. It’s a testament to the evolution of Wyn’s artistry, who enters a new domain having recently released her debut album, A Pleasure To Have In Class.
Can’t Get No Love ‘Round Here tackles the challenges of toxic relationships, as well as the artist’s complex and often troubled relationship with the music industry. In essence, it’s a sonic salute to the 1960s, something the vocalist alludes to in her delivery.
In a statement, Nia said it’s a song she wrote about “…feeling like you are second best, still craving that love and recognition, and therefore sticking around.”
“I wanted it to be about both toxic relationships and my complicated love/hate with the music industry,” which she says includes, “The highs, the lows, and how it can make or break your self-esteem.”
The Verdict
It’s a slick work of music, one I’m sure naturally came to her in the compositional process. It’s a wistful ballad highlighting the spirit of the singer’s style, aurally executed with intuitive finesse.
Taking us back, while also platforming her emotions, she’s widdled a superb piece of funky goodness.
Streaming
You can stream the new single on major platforms, including Spotify, Apple, YouTube Music, Amazon, and Tidal.
