The moment Lil Yachty reveals new music featuring a line about George Floyd.

He then played songs bearing the mark of terrifyingly poor music, like someone who just started rapping. But it’s not the sonics he’s catching heat for.

Following 43-minutes of playtime, a disgusting line is heard: “Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd.” To no one’s surprise, it sparked utter outrage.

Public Backlash

Social media was shocked and appalled by his blatant disregard for such a tragic event. To add insult to injury, the rapper continued to mime and dance to his own music as the verse played, seemingly oblivious to his lyrics.

One user said: “Wow. how out of touch are some of the youth for real?!? It’s kind of wild, because not one person in that room heard that bar and thought “now wait a min…”. Their facial expressions didn’t change or anything—not one!”

“The bar is weak. He’s weak. Y’all make the wrong ppl famous.”

One person noticed something else: “The girl in da back heard that line and walked off.”

George Floyd’s Murder

George Floyd was a 46-year-old unarmed Black man who was murdered by the Minneapolis Police Department.

On the 25th May 2020, he was arrested for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 dollar bill.

George Floyd’s murder was only five years ago.

During the arrest, police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck, to which he responded, “I can’t breathe.” He remained in this position for nearly 10 minutes, handcuffed, not resisting, and posing no threat to the public.

It resulted in his murder in broad daylight — it was captured on video by bystanders.

Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison. The three other officers present, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng, were charged with aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.
