“War”: Gabe ‘Nandez and Preservation Turn Spotlight on ‘Never Again’

The rappers are joined by Billy Woods, as they lower the curtain on the world’s open scandal

Gabe ‘Nandez, Preservation & Billy Woods rendezvous for new single, War

War is an anti-conflict track tackling difficult themes. Global violence and instability are rife; something the trio sketch out with clarity.

War Is a Wake-Up Call By Some of Rap’s Greats

Featuring a loaded beat with slamming snares and horns that are lit with a sluggish tone, its production accentuates both the vocals and its slow traction of its music.

Poignancy threads itself throughout this composition, akin to napalm on wax. Its timely subject matter highlights society’s eroding mental action, and de-sensitisation in such a time of overstimulation thanks to 24-hour news cycles on tap.

War is taken from the album Sortilège.

One line of particular note is dispatched by ‘Nandez himself, and holds weight given the current events:

“The genocide will be televised so of these normal lies”

Overall, each verse paints a bleak picture and despite its insanely good rhyme schemes, it’s their delivery that steals the show, helping to project each rapper’s motif. It’s catalysed by an urgency and apathy, delusional but sane, composed but losing it.
