As we await his new album, the rapper drops another hip-hop bomb — Dark Aura

Is Joey Badass teasing more music before a drop for his signed, sealed and undelivered album, Lonely at the Top? Today, he released another track titled, Dark Aura.

Dark Aura is a Filler Track at Best

It’s definitely a statement and is another song from his upcoming project. The duration and intensity all add towards an understood tempo within the hip-hop world, synonymous with album introductions.

Ask any listener — you’ll get a nod. If it’s not, then, 30 seconds of waffling and ad-libs is a pointless exercise.

However, it could be this joint isn’t even part of the project (despite declarations on social media) given the rapper’s grievances with his current label.

But, as he made clear in a statement, recent music has been published to YouTube for a reason. But this one made it to both streaming and the video platform.

“Laidback in the Maybach, I know they can’t stand it”

It’s a brooding, dark presentation in keeping with the track’s title, thanks to a beat produced by Chuck Strangers. While it’s loaded with a message, it’s tired, trying, and a stone in the water with no ripples.

The Verdict

No matter what this is, there’s no doubting he’s got skill, I’ll give him that — but not on this release.

Filled with cliché rhymes and recycled songwriting, it’s filler at best. Dark Aura’s lyrics are salvaged text, average, uninventive and timid. While Badass’ recent catalogue has been more than tempting, this isn’t doing it for me.

In a social media post, the rapper noted his album will be released in the 29th August 2025.
