New Hip-Hop: 3 Dope Tracks You Missed

From UK rap to the homeland of hip-hop, here are three incredible tracks you need to stream right now

Sometimes it’s hard to find music worth listening to, let alone saving to a playlist. Our regular column, curated by our writers, highlights the three best hip-hop songs you can listen to right now, saving you from the deliberation of choosing. Let’s get straight to it.

Rome Streetz & Conductor Williams ft Jay Worthy – “10 Toes”

Rome Streetz is the current king of New York. Having dropped some incredible music with consistency, the rapper’s latest effort with Conductor Williams removed the brakes for Trainspotting, out now on Mass Appeal Records.

Hammering out this track with Jay Worthy, it effuses the ideals of success and what it brings — and honestly, we didn’t expect this one to drop given how many other gems there are on the album. But part of its genius was releasing it anyway: it’s a statement of having made it, and no matter what he does, he’s showing confidence in the fact there’s plenty more where that came from. Two verses really do highlight how they have it made.

Verbz & Mr Slipz- “It’s Raining Again” Ft India Shan

Another producer-rapper collaboration, Verbz & Mr Slipz have been at it for a long time and are some of the best rappers to do it. Verbzy’s cadence and lexis channel a fruitful balance of guiding the listener to hold an exercise in meditation.

Verbz & Mr Slipz encapsulate the high emotions present on “It’s Raining Again” with India Shan.

Really, their past few tracks have been an incredible demonstration of the art of rhyme. It isn’t just their use of wordplay and metaphors but their precise rehearsal of pinpointing an emotional resonance with the listener. The duo fertilise intrigue with each and every one of their songs, and there’s something we can all take from this latest drop. The revolution of cyclical emotional states is perfectly encapsulated within It’s Raining Again, and India Shan does well to underscore the seminal cadence, as she usually does. The single is taken from their forthcoming album The Way Fwd, and will be released on High Focus Records.

Evidence – “Seeing Double”

Back to the lyrics—you’ve probably noticed a pattern forming here. As we always say, we’re not here to stroke anyone’s ego, but we’re also not in the business of wasting our readers’ time. So, with that in mind, Evidence is the perfect tribute to all things style and repartee. His fresh track, taken from his album Unlearning Vol. 2, is a self-examining kettle of steaming brilliance.

Seeing Double examines the trials the rapper has faced—sometimes touching on the artistry of his work, other times, a reflection on lifestyle choices: “My arm hurt, too many curves, I stopped pitching, this is the time I started smoking weed and got distant.”

Evidence pontificates less, prefering to perform for impact. “Out my element, Avoiding curses, went away to make better beats that never surfaced,” he raps, assaying the potential for music that doesn’t quite hit the mark, though will likely re-emerge at a later date. It’s a movement in a track, a self-exploratory hunt for the self, and hits hard.
