Tedious new songs are a window into new album Iceman
Instead of a roll out, Drake’s upcoming album is unravelling. His new single Dog House is telling of a career in free fall, and the kind of long play we’re bound to get: a panicking Drizzy.
Iceman Sounds Timid
Drake yields the same results for a fascinating artist with a repetitive output. Filled with platitudes and the sound of a faltering personality, it’s perplexing. In the one hand he used to produce results, now he’s just coasting.
My expectations for his upcoming album, Iceman, were that he would return to his roots, fortifying an imprint he was known for. Instead, we’re still veering between pop, R&B, using rap as a vehicle to get to wherever he’s going. This man isn’t sending a message, he’s winging it.
Only Aubrey could release tame tracks after swinging in a fight he was sure to lose. The answer to such a catastrophic negative would’ve been to pitch your skill on wax with the flair of what rap is capable of. Instead, we got — What Did I Miss?, Which One, Dog House and less.
