High Focus Records are becoming a bastion of the UK rap scene, recruiting some of the finest in the game. As the label’s director, Trix’s talent stands in the same lane as those he recruits.

Transform follows wildly successful single Floodlights — and this time is no different. The double team’s latest volley of self-analysing music literally does what it says on the tin, one that tinders a careful pace. It’s an introspective piece filled with a light yet modest finish.

His animated pungent vocals lace the track with a vibrant spirit while its composition gently engages the listener. Through basslines and a cluster of instrumental additions, it’s a joint that will capture the attention of many, both in and outside of hip-hop.

It’s a welcome addition to a scene that faces little change in flow and breath work. The rapper’s latest bolt of talent mixes metres of flows, sampled from a variety of genres, courtesy of the tastemaker himself who dabbles in genres beyond the scope of most MCs.

The Verdict

Marar’s input toasts the woodwork, chopping to activate verse breaks while we take stock of a stylistic broth of rap and beats.

Overall, it’s another satisfactory work from the label, and Fliptrix is doing what he does best — spitting roasty bars.
