The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake is set to release for the spooky season directly on Hulu
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle has been a classic horror/thriller, and this October, it gets a remake. The film will be distributed by Hulu.
The Plot
It follows suburban parents Claire and Miguel Morales, who are looking for a nanny to care for their daughter.
In their search, they come across Polly Murphy, a professional with years of experience and a gleaming resume. But not everything is as it seems.
It’s a story of trust and a window into the mind of psychopathy and manipulation. The original features gaslighting and violence, and the new trailer suggests the same.
Production and Casting Details
The film is produced by 20th Century Studios and stars Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo), and Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and is directed by Mexican filmmaker Michelle Garza Cervera.
Release
The film’s producers have not yet confirmed if it will get a theatrical release. This means it will likely feature as a direct to streaming Halloween title. It will release on October 22, 2025.
Our Reaction
Hype-meter
There’s definitely a lot going on here. While the intensity appears to be upscaled, it’s clear the movie needed to be updated for the times.
Monroe appears to be a menacing force, tearing through the family, while Elizabeth-Winstead’s role looks on point. The atmosphere is on the right track with some serious location scouting to contend with the original. Overall, I’m on the fence, but hopeful.
