Mobb Deep have dropped another tremendous effort in the shape of new song, Down For You. The track features Mass Appeal ring leader Nas as well as Jorja Smith.

Sampling Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, the addition softens the foundation of the track, lending greater weight to the exploits of each lyricist.

Havoc jumps onto the wax first, spitting at an adagio pace himself, before Nas drifts in with an instantly recognisable cadence.
Down For You is a fitting work for Jorja Smith, whose gentle vocals add contrast to a meld of detail. Its momentum isn’t finished, as the late rapper Prodigy adds additional tinder to the flames of an already hot track.
The Verdict
This is a substantial piece with a motif that feels obvious, though its production feels slightly off kilter — it’s for good measure. The unique filament in its composition adds tonal nuance; giving each rhymer a linchpin to add their own thunderous ejection.
