Like much of popular culture, so too has hip-hop slipped into a void of repetitive mulch, scrapped from the pits of endless validation seeking. But, sometimes you strike gold in the quest for rap gems. 125th Sandman is a track with real teeth, a true work of gourmet music.
The production is a mesmerising effort, combining history with a contemporary vision against a perfect dispatch — it’s faultless. The two lyricists ride the beat with exceptional purpose, gallantly tracking a belief in both their delivery and intonations. Fried with a concept that is almost celestial, there’s a meditative quality at play.
How long has BVNGS been out there? I don’t know; but I am sure glad to have stumbled upon such class and bravado. It takes real guts to be at peace with your own style; and this is exactly what she’s achieved.
With a musical capsule, chiselled by Lekreaem, the cadence and emulsion of both BVNGS & DJ M80 is taken to a place of pure enjoyment.
