“Batman: Knightfall” — Everything We Know About the New Movie

DC Comics has announced that it has greenlit a series of films based on the Knightfall series. Here’s what you need to know

Last updated: 14th October 2025

Batman is currently at peak popularity and the proof is indeed in the pudding. The famous Knightfall (BK) series, where Bruce Wayne battles the unrelenting force of Bane, is getting a multi-part animated film series. That’s right — it won’t be a stand alone title, but one of many.

The Dark Knight Returns was one of few successful Batman animations.

Knightfall: What We Know So Far

The duration of the Knightfall series is long — really long. The first instalment is like a bulletproof vest; if a battle befalls you, you’re safe. So in light of this, the saga will be a serial instalment — which means, we’re on the eve of a large-scale Batman event. Expect McFarlane to produce overpriced, ugly action figures and WB to release a special edition Blu Ray at the cost of your house.

Not much is know about the production, though there are a few details confirmed. Jeff Wamester, who has overseen Justice League and Green Lantern titles, will direct, while Jeremy Adams, writer of Mortal Kombat Legends will craft the screenplay.

The Plot

The story was published in 1993, so don’t expect any surprises, except perhaps for its cast. The official synopsis reads:

Batman: The Animated Series is yet to be topped.

When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogues Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point“.

Expect quirky characters and Bane smashing, cracking and breaking Batman, until he falls apart — literally.

Line Drawn Or CGI?

No one knows for sure, but one thing is certain — the desire for a return to The Animated Series aesthetic remains strong among fans. It was one of the few Batman iterations where audiences truly bought into the atmosphere.

The title card for Batman: Knightfall.

Verdict

The story inspired Christopher Nolan‘s third motion picture, The Dark Knight Rises, bringing Bane to the forefront of popular culture. While we are excited about BK, we’re equally apprehensive. In a climate of rushed deadlines, we fear the art may take a backseat.

Knightfall is already in production and is slated for a 2026 release. Stay tuned for more.
