New collaborative hip-hop album “Goldfish” is an impressive, though predictable, drop
Last updated: 26th October 2025
This album wasn’t a surprise given the consistency of The Alchemist and Hit-Boy. What did take us back was the lengths and secrecy the duo went to. Whats the deal then? The two are rapping over each other’s beats, sometimes collaboratively.
What It Sounds Like
Hit-Boy has exhibits his ability to grab the mic, while The Alchemist shows great promise and finesse in both his flow and texture.
However, there’s little on offer to call a work of genius on his part; aside from the production quality, the lyrics from both artists carry weight, just not enough to call it a seminal drop to recall.
That said, it’s descriptive and fluently in tandem with the production quality — especially back-to-back tracks like Ricky and Groupie Lovers.
The Verdict
What does one expect from such an album? Sonically, you’ll get a predictable sound — with the upside being a full project with bars to match. But don’t discount them — while they’re not memorable enough for the history books, the entire project is a pleasurable listen.
