Cam’ron gets shrewd: the Diplomat rapper is taking J.Cole to court for failing to “return the favour”
Like Oprah Winfrey, Cam’ron (born Cameron Giles) also has his own talk show. The rapper is taking it seriously enough to protect his interests following a collaboration with J. Cole.
What Happened?
Last year, the Diplomat artist featured on the song Ready 24 alongside Cole (real name Jermaine Lamarr Cole), with the promise that he would “return the favour” by appearing on Cam’s talk show “It Is What It Is” or his collaborative sports project with Mase.

However, the planned appearance never happened — prompting Killa Cam to launch legal action unless The Off Season artist reconsiders.
After repeated attempts to contact him, the 40-year old, also known as Therapist, finally responded, allegedly telling Giles that he is unavailable.
Ready ‘24 is part of J.Cole’s mixtape Might Delete Later and was released to tide fans over while he preps his long overdue album — The Fall Off.
The Stanisland Magazine Perspective
While there are several points to unpack, the main issue is that Cole appears to have failed to deliver on his promise. Whether he has this in writing will be the sticking point — without a concrete agreement, verbal contracts rarely hold up unless witnesses confirm them. Even then, it’s difficult to prove in court.
If a deal was agreed, then the North Carolina-based spitter needs to make good on his promise. Cam’ron’s reliance on verbal trust between rappers is something he has relied on for years.
Still, Cole has an album to finish, and the pressure to finalise a long-awaited long play is understandable. However, if he doesn’t fulfil his side of the bargain, other rappers may start to reconsider future partnerships with him.
The final cherry on top? Maybe Cole just doesn’t want to face those killer questions. Which ones? Let’s just say… does the name Kendrick Lamar ring a bell?
