Stanisland Magazine’s take on the three trending films out this November — The good, the bad, and the mediocre
November is big movie bank month — the holiday season often drains its monetary juice, so this penultimate period often smacks of last-resort studio time. With that, here’s what’s dropping this month.
The Running Man (Dir. Edgar Wright)
Billed as a more true-to-life adaptation, this Stephen King adaptation stars Hollywood’s force-fed actor Glen Powell.
It’s one of the author’s most well-known plots; however, there are a few differences from the Arnold Schwarzenegger version.
It’s more fatithful to the novel, with the story likely to parallel today’s modern world with a slightly darker tone.
Unlike Paul Michael Glaser‘s adaptation, this version will likely serve a different purpose. King himself has called it “a bipartisan thrill ride” and the “Die Hard for our time”. Bold words Richard Bachman — lets hope it lives up to expectations, especially with Edgar Wright in charge.
Production studio: Paramount Pictures
Starring: Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, Colman Domingo, Michael Cera, and David Zayas.

Predator: Badlands (Dir. Dan Trachtenberg)
Much like Prey, “Predator: Badlands” appears to be a movie for the easily pleased. Having diluted the personality and atmosphere of the Yautja, it’s unlikely we’ll see the hunter enter the realm of an engaging plot again.
This iteration stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi in what appears to be an impressively underwhelming, cringe-worthy CGI festival of low expectations.
It follows our alien friend Dek, an outcast from his tribe, who happens to find two damaged Weyland-Yutani synthetics, Thia and Tessa, who oppose them both.
Production studio: 20th Century Studios
Starring: Elle Fanning, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi.

Bugonia (Dir. Yorgos Lanthimos)
The trailer looks good, the casting looks good — even the director appears to be just that. Having made a name for himself with “The Lobster”, “Poor Things”, and “Dogtooth”, Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia” is looking like — and already wooing critics — an epic adventure that some describe as a “Safety Not Guaranteed” style production.
It sees Emma Stone take on the role of corporate powerhouse Michelle, who is kidnapped by Jesse Plemons (Teddy) and Aidan Delbis (Don) — two conspiracy theorists who believe she is an Alien overlord with dark intentions.
Starring: Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Alicia Silverstone, and Aidan Delbis.
Production studio: Focus Features
