Antoine Fuqua directs, with Jackson’s nephew taking the movie lead
Universal Pictures and Lionsgate Films have unveiled the first trailer for the Michael Jackson biopic simply titled “Jackson”. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua.
Cast and Production Details
Little—if anything—that we don’t already know will be revealed. Michael Jackson’s life was very public; the ups and downs of his life were an open book. That said, if the project offers a faithful retelling of his career with nuance, it could turn out to be a great movie.
Biopics are usually hit or miss, and with Fuqua in the director’s seat—given his recent shortcomings—we may not get the best of movies. That said, we could be pleasantly surprised.
Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the late Jermaine Jackson, will play the lead and star alongside Nia Long (as Katherine Jackson), Kat Graham (as Diana Ross), Colman Domingo (as Joe Jackson), and Miles Teller, who will play John Branca (co-executor of Michael Jackson’s estate).
Verdict
Hype-Meter
So far, so good—though we can’t make a definitive verdict without having seen the film. But recent production track records—mediocre—suggest otherwise.
