De La Soul never stay out of the picture for too long — hopefully they’ll be churning out music in their rocking chairs. With a new album set to release, “Cabin In The Sky,” the group drop its lead single and visualiser for ‘Day In The Sun (Gettin’ Wit U)‘.
Review and Verdict
Upbeat in sound, the track reflects just that, with a quintessential De La soundscape. Rapper Posdnuos released a statement on the new joint, saying: “This record is about gratitude, joy, and rebirth. We’ve been through storms, and now it’s time to stand back in the sun.”

Simple in timbre, the chorus harks back to their 1990s profile, with lyrics catering to a breadth of audiences. Ironcially, it’s on the nose, but it works, and that’s the charm of the group on ‘Day In The Sun’:
Just another day in the sun
I guess another day has begun
And I ain’t got nothin’ to do
I’m thinkin’ ’bout gettin’ wit’ you,
The song also features Q-Tip, adding to the vivacious appeal the rappers bring to the table. Yummy Bingham adds a nostalgic tone fitting for the track, elevating the song with choral vocals reminiscent of summer music.
The visualiser hints at classic DLS patterns, with production sitting within the sonic confines of their niche.
Mass Appeal‘s latest run of releases under the Legend Has It… campaign has seen drops from a legendary list of acts, though Cabin In The Sky looks set to change the tone.
