Toy company Hasbro unleashes Samurai energy through Optimus Prime and Starscream

Hasbro unveiled their latest Transformers Timelines product and are taking preorders for new Optimus Prime and Starscream action figures. Inspired by Samurai warriors, the two both look simultaneously great — and odd — however, there’s something to be weary of.

New Figures, Old Habits (Probably)

Starscream gets the better alternative of the two, transforming into a majestic falcon, while Optimus Prime’s design from prestigious warrior to ox and cart is intriguing to say the least.

With a whopping price point of $67.99 (£60.99), you’ll certainly be chipping in for Hasbro’s Christmas party. How they get away with such extortionate pricing is insidious.

Having purchased a lot from the brand, I confidently say quality control is sketchy to say the least. And the bare bones extras — such as accessories — cannot be justified.

Stray plastic flakes and chips flying around at the unboxing stage make the toy company’s QC a horrifying experience. Honestly, I’ve seen better finishes from VTech. I could be pleasantly surprised, though past investments make me believe I won’t.

Verdict

Unless something changes, this is a hard pass from me. It will be great to see another animated series, but I doubt this version is the one.

Anyway, we’re still waiting on re-runs of Coronation Starscream and Headmasters, among others.
